Job Summary:
This is a remote, mid-level position functioning under minimal supervision and utilizing independent decision making. This position is responsible for reviewing provider documentation and accurately assigning ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, and CPT procedure codes and modifiers, for outpatient visits provided at Froedtert Health facilities, including: Observation services, Emergency Department services, Clinic visits with minor procedures, and surgical services performed in the OR, Cardiac Cath Lab and/or in the Interventional Radiology Suites. This position also performs charging for Emergency Department visits provided at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, as well as charging for CRNA services provided during inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures. Communication with care providers, clinic management, and clinic support staff may be needed to accurately code all technical services. Attends meetings as scheduled and participates in continuing education. Departmental quality, productivity, and “productive time” standards must be met on a consistent basis. . This position may be required to backup all Coder I level areas of coding. Other duties may be assigned. This position requires in depth knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding, Anatomy and Medical terminology. This position also requires a high degree of adaptability. Coders must become credentialed within one year of hiring as either a RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P or CCA

EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION: 

Three years of HIM experience in hospital outpatient coding is required.

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: 

Work experience at an academic facility is preferred.

EDUCATION DESCRIPTION: 

Employee has one year from the date of hire to become credentialed as an RHIA, RHIT, CCA, CCS-P or CCS

EDUCATION PREFERRED: 

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in HIM or equivalent is preferred.

LICENSURE DESCRIPTION: 

Certified RHIA/RHIT or CCS/CCA/CCS-P is required before employee reaches one year of employment.
