Nurse Manager – 3W Cardiac Progressive Care Unit

3WEST is a 50 bed Cardiac Progressive Care Unit that sees a multitude of complex patients, including medicine overflow. Many of our patients require advanced monitoring, or an elevated level of care. RN’s obtain specialized skills to care for this population including being ACLS trained within 1 year of RN hire. Specialties often cared for on 3WEST include, cardiothoracic surgery, electrophysiology, advanced heart failure, lung/heart transplant, trans-venous pacing, mechanical circulatory support, and DKA management, as well as heated high flow oxygen needs from many medical teams. 3WEST is a great place to learn while achieving an elevated scope of practice outside of the ICU setting.

Job Summary:
The Nurse Manager provides support to the Director of Nursing by overseeing the day-to-day operational activities of assigned patient care units. This individual must be able to apply principles of leadership and human relations in the overall supervision and coordination of patient care and personnel. This person may be delegated certain responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Nursing. Maintains unit specific standard of practice based on current literature and professional standards of practice. In collaboration with the Staff Development department and unit educators, participates in the design, implementation and evaluation of orientation, staff development, and continuing education relevant to unit staff. Also, in collaboration with the Staff Development department, assists with nursing schools, regulatory requirements, and patient and family education. Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:

Approximately two-years clinical practice in designated specialty to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of unit and departmental policies and procedures, and to fulfill established quality and quantity standards for the job is required.

EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:

Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of a program at an accredited School of Nursing is required. Bachelor’s degree in nursing is required. If no nursing degree, must be enrolled and actively progressing in an academic program, which will confer a nursing degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s in Nursing) by January 1, 2014.

SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION:

Interpersonal skills necessary to instruct and maintain effective contacts with a variety of hospital personnel. Analytical skills necessary to prepare nursing care plans, outcome management tools, statistical reports, implement effective nursing care and develop solutions to problems concerning patients’ mental or physical well-being. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 80% of work time when resolving patient care problems and dealing with patients and their families, often during stressful situations.

LICENSURE DESCRIPTION:

Requires current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or a Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact).
